Zoo Daddy

Steve took Della to the office and then to the zoo on Friday. I asked Della what she saw at the zoo and she said Bob. Which is the name of Steve’s boss. Today she was saying, where’s Daddy’s Bob?

Look at the clever hashtags in the background. You can use those for free.

Also that day, lots of people mistook these two for brothers. I like it when little boys have long messy hair like that, someone said.

From the office of developmental advancement:

What’s your daddy’s name? Terrence asked her at daycare. Steve. What’s your mommy’s name? She made guesses including Alice, Johnny, and Olah.

Tried to teach her “Peaches and cream, bacon and eggs, our team has the hairiest legs!” She said, “Peaches and ice cream and milk and a shake and a snake.”

Also, potty training is off. I’m sure I’m not the first one to make this joke but it’s kind of like going from a cell phone to a landline, so I don’t blame her for being like no thanks.

VA Beach Camping/Father’s Day

We went camping with Marc, Megan, Adrian, and Beatrice. We touched a frog, we got lost, we saw mermaid daddy, we read The Lolackths (Lorax).

Here we are in the back seat, on our way.

Others hung out in hammocks. I wish I could find the picture of me and Steve in the hammock with Marc on our camping trip in 2010. But I think it’s on an old hard drive that weighs as much as an iron and has a cord that is not USB.

This is like the most casual sleeping situation George has ever known.

Turning now to Father’s Day. Steve does so much for me and the children, next-door-neighbor Dorothy gets mad at me sometimes. You don’t know how good you have it, she says in her 80-year-old, Irish Catholic, Fairfax County way. Probably not! DSC_0010

We love him, and we would not have survived in the wilds of 1957, Dorothy, when wives did all the things that wives back then did.

Della made this tie-dyed-T-shirt picture frame for Dad. Or anyway somebody made it. We have all these daycare craft projects on the fridge, and sometimes Della walks by and says, “Michelle made that.”

Couple of expired flower pictures to round things out. We love you, Steve!

Swings

Della and I did some good swinging this morning at the park on Paul Springs. The swings there are really high and long. Also, I stood on the stump and sang Baa Baa Black Sheep while Della stood on the picnic table and sang ABCs. We threw rocks in the stream and accidentally stepped in the stream in our shoes. We hopped from rock to rock. We floated leaves down. We sat on the boardwalk. More swinging and then biked away. But these are pictures of the swing at our house.
