A lot happening in the lives of the little people!
New this week, Gorgeous George is eating food, he grew a tooth, and he is sleep trained. Is he sleeping through the night? I don’t know if he is, but I am. At parent-teacher conference on Thursday, it was said that he is showing signs of progress in his social, emotional, and physical development. “And you know what, Johanna, actually: he is a good boy.”
We also got a report on Della. They say she is transitioning well to the 2-year-old class. She is meeting lots of milestones, but got nicked on the following: drawing faces and horizontal lines, hopping on one foot, knowing her last name and gender, and a few other equally useless skills.
Also in the news: Della got a bike seat! On her first ride, she was heard taunting the pedestrian children, “Hi, kids!” and, down the hill, yelling, “Go, Daddy, go!”
Della had an accident! “Student fell face first onto deck without ability to use hands to break fall. Student lacerated face and nose.” Sounds serious. But as you can see, “lacerate” is just a serious word for “scrape.” Thankfully, Della made a full recovery. The incident report blames “loss of balance by student when turning around. Age appropriate.”
That same day…
Thanks to a special deal at Giant, Della had lobster dinner two nights in a row. She doesn’t much care for lobster, but she sure likes butter. At first she tried dipping food (lobster, corn, potatoes, popsicles) in the butter sauce, but found it was more efficient to scoop it out with a hand and then both hands. Finally she brought the dipping dish up to her mouth for a drink, and that’s where we drew the line. By the end of the meal, Della was glistening like a well-oiled body builder.
Today we went to Burke Lake and rode the choo choo train, took a carousel ride, and ate ice cream and rainbow sherbert. Della even got to see some real babies, to whom she waved aggressively. Later we went for a short walk, and Della examined the gravel on her left hand.
Steve says Della is looking like a “party animal” and “miniature John Candy” in this outfit. This isn’t the first time Della has been compared to John Candy.
This is Della’s favorite thing to wear. When she sees it, she makes us take her other clothes off and put this on. She tries to put it on herself by pulling it around her neck like a scarf.
I thought, based on the success of this dress, that other dresses might also be okay. We tried this subtly patriotic frock on the Fourth, but she kept tripping on it.
All dressing aside, Della usually looks like this. Serious and naked.
